“Hear me out. I’m not telling you to eat crap. But when it happens, you’ll help yourself by bolstering your nutrient reserves. This will help in two ways.”

Supercharged foods to the rescue!

First, you’ll help temper your cravings. Have you ever noticed that the more junk you eat, the more junk you want? At least that’s how it works with me. So boost your nutrition, which will help stabilize your blood sugar, make your body stronger, and make those cravings take a nap. At least for a few minutes!

Second, it tires your body to process a bunch of empty calories. That’s why you need some extra nutrition. These foods will help you not only feel better. They’ll help your body work better. So here are 10 of my favorite supercharged foods that help boost your diet when you start eating junk

Berries

Berries are awesomely sweet, and will please your palate when you’re on a sugar jag. Plus, they’re packed with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. So you can appease your sweet tooth while fighting some of the free radicals that have been let loose by your junk diet.

Unflavored Gelatin

Don’t get too excited. I’m not talking about jello here. I’m talking about a protein source derived from collagen that will improve your skin, tissue and bones. It’s great for gut health, joint pain and can help keep you energized. Add it to a smoothie or mix it in some water. This will give you a nice lift when you need a little extra protein

Avocado

Avocados contains super healthy monounsaturated fats. They’re a great source of potassium, vitamin e and vitamin c. But here’s why they count as a supercharged food. Their fat content slows digestion, helping you feel full. Exactly what you need when you can’t stop nibbling.

Leafy Greens

First, these amazing greens are overflowing with filling fiber and tons of vitamins and minerals. Second they are packed with phytonutrients. What are phytonutrients? They are health boosting compounds found in plants. You can’t get them in pill form. You need to eat plants to get their kick ass health benefits.

Beans

Bean, beans good for your heart…No!! How did these awesome foods get such a bad rep! Here’s why beans are amazing. They are one of the only foods that are a good source of protein while also being a great source of fiber! So they help keep you full while helping you with energy. Try just a small amount if you don’t regularly eat them. Or take a probiotic or a digestive enzyme to help your body chug along silently.

Garlic

Garlic is for one of the quintessential healing foods. When you cut garlic, you help the formation of an amazing nutrient called allicin which has medicinal healing properties. Learn how to help release this enzyme when cutting garlic right here. It is also a nutrient rich, very low calorie food. So you can bump up your lagging nutrition. Garlic cloves are supercharged foods like no other.

Bone Broth

Here’s another super healing food. The bones are one of the healthiest part of the animal. So making broth just makes sense. Bone broth is so full of amino acids, vitamins and minerals.  Plus, it’s low in calories. Consume it to detox and heal the gut. That’s a win, win!

Nuts

First, I’m not talking about peanuts. As a reminder, peanuts are legumes, not nuts! Think of almonds, walnuts and cashews. Nuts are small but mighty. They’re super filling. And a handful a day can do the body good and can even help with weight loss. Plus they are good sources of fiber, vitamins and minerals. Keep these little suckers on hand for when hunger strikes mid-day!

Green Tea

You’ll probably want to grab for the java if you’ve been eating a junk diet. But here’s the magical reason to grab green tea instead. Green tea in it’s natural form can give a boost to your metabolism. Who doesn’t want that? And it’s overflowing with polyphenols which will help you heal the imbalances that come with a depleting diet. Plus, it will just make you feel good.

Turmeric, Ginger, and Cinnamon

Well, these aren’t exactly supercharged FOODS. But they’re used to spice foods and can even be used in larger quantities in a smoothie. Turmeric is great for detoxification and liver support. Ginger is great for the stomach and blood sugar levels. And cinnamon is fantastic for blood sugar support. And these all are beneficial for someone whose diet has been heavy in processed, sugary foods.

You’re gonna indulge from time to time. Or maybe even on a constant basis. So when you find yourself knee deep in junk food, take a breather. Add these foods in your diet and you’ll undo some of the damage you’ve done. Maybe they’ll even inspire you to eat healthier going forward.

Life is about compromise. And while you might not be doing everything you intended to hit your health goals, you can still keep yourself on a track. So remember these healing, supercharged foods. And keep them on hand for the next time you find yourself indulging in a junk diet!
